Nature Explorers

At Nature Explorers in Waipawa, we believe in the transformative power of nature and experiential learning. Our forest school-based programme is designed for tamariki (children) aged 5-14, providing a space where they can explore, create, and grow in a natural setting.

 

Our philosophy is rooted in the understanding that nature offers a rich, ever-changing environment that stimulates curiosity and fosters a lifelong love for learning. We focus on experiential learning, encouraging tamariki to engage with the world around them through hands-on activities, problem-solving, and teamwork. By immersing in the outdoors, children develop a deeper connection with the land, its ecosystems, and the cultural significance of Aotearoa's unique environment.

 

We aim to cultivate a spirit of adventure, resilience, and environmental stewardship. At Nature Explorers, we emphasise respect for the natural world and each other. Our programme encourages tamariki to take calculated risks, make discoveries, and embrace the freedom of unstructured play, all while building self-confidence and critical thinking skills.

 

Through activities like bushcraft, nature walks, gardening, and arts and crafts, we create opportunities for tamariki to explore their creativity and strengthen their problem-solving abilities. We also integrate Māori values through karakia, honouring the land's indigenous heritage and teaching tamariki the importance of kaitiakitanga (guardianship) in their interactions with nature.

 

Nature Explorers is not only a place to learn; it's a community where tamariki can form lasting friendships, develop a sense of belonging, and discover their talents. We believe in nurturing the whole child—mind, body, and spirit—and providing an environment where each child can thrive in their own way.
